Gossip - Sounds Like Art - ARTE accompanies world-renowned musicians on a journey through Europe’s' landmark art exhibitions. In this episode, the US band Gossip and their dazzling front woman Beth Ditto play a unique concert at the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin. Riot Grrrl sounds merge fuse feminist art. Ditto's distinctive voice sets Lucy Raven, Yoko Ono, Carolee Schneemann and Gerhard Richter to music. We hear about Ditto’s queer punk activism and discover Mies van der Rohe’s spectacular Neue Nationalgalerie in the heart of Berlin. Gossip was quiet for a long time. After disbanding in 2016, Ditto went solo and explored the world of fashion. At the end of 2023, however, Gossip announced their long-awaited comeback. Their music, which ranges and roars between disco and rock, has always been feminist and political - this is just as they are on the album “Real Power," produced by Rick Rubin and released in 2024. For Sounds Like Art, Gossip present their greatest hits as well as a selection from the new album, surrounded by feminist art and classic modernism at the Neue Nationalgalerie Berlin.
