British director Brian Large, a world-renowned figure in television direction of opera and classical music, received the Artis Bohemiae Amicis medal today at the Nostitz Palace. The award was presented by Deputy Minister of Culture Michal Šašek on the occasion of Large's participation in the Golden Prague Festival, where he will present his memoir At Large – Behind the Camera with Brian Large this afternoon.

Brian Large boasts a career spanning over fifty years, during which he has been involved in the creation of nearly a thousand productions in the world of opera, classical music, and ballet. A native of London, he studied at the Royal Academy of Music and the University of London, where he earned doctoral degrees in music and philosophy. His postgraduate work brought him to Vienna and Prague, and his love for Czech and Slavic music led him to write and publish acclaimed books on the music of Bedřich Smetana and Bohuslav Martinů. In 2017, the Bohuslav Martinů Society in Prague honored Large’s work with the prestigious Bohuslav Martinů Foundation Medal.

You can meet Brian Large in person at the launch of his memoir today at 16:15 in the Municipal House!
