The Golden Prague Festival has officially begun! The opening night of the 62nd edition of the international showcase of television production featured two powerful documentaries, one about the Prague Philharmonic Choir and the other about the Epoque Quartet. It was a fitting prelude to what promises to be a truly exceptional year.
The evening opened with the film The Power of Voice: The Story of the Prague Philharmonic Choir, directed by Dominik Kalivoda. It guided viewers through the 90-year history and present-day life of this top-tier ensemble. The second film of the night, Epoque Quartet 25, directed by Jakub Sommer, offered a personal look into 25 years of musical adventure with four musicians unafraid to blend classical music with jazz, rock, and electronic influences. The result is a film full of energy, perspective, and musical freedom.
From the very first night, Golden Prague proved that television and documentaries have the power to tell stories that resonate. And this is only the beginning.
In the coming days, the festival will present, among other things, documentaries about Emil Viklický, a film about the punk rock band Tři sestry, premiere screenings of additional films, a gala awards ceremony, and a rich accompanying program. The main competition features 84 films from 12 countries, with the winner selected by an international jury chaired by German producer Elmar Kruse.
Golden Prague runs at the Municipal House until Saturday, September 27. All competition films are also available to watch online on the festival’s website.
