Czechia
Pavel Trojan (*1984) graduated in composition and conducting from the Prague Conservatory and studied music management and composition at the Music Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague.
In August 2022, he was appointed as the Director of the Prague Spring public benefit corporation, which organizes the eponymous international music festival, the international music competition, and the Rudolf Firkušný Piano Festival. He has been working for Prague Spring since 2010. Over the years, he was responsible for marketing and PR, served as press spokesperson, and in 2019 became Deputy Director.
In his position, he strives to expand the festival programme and strengthen the role of international co-production projects. In collaboration with the festival's dramaturg and artistic council, he has introduced new concert formats, contributed to the creation of the Prague Offspring project, which focuses on contemporary music, expanded masterclasses and educational programmes that have reached a wider audience spectrum. He prides himself on supporting the development of young talents. He initiated collaboration with support and mentorship projects for young musicians, enabling them to perform on the prestigious stage of the Prague Spring Festival. He considers this an important contribution to the future flourishing of the music scene and attracting the attention of the younger generation to classical music. In this context, the Prague Spring International Music Competition also plays an important role. In 2024, a tradition of a new accompanying art project, the Prague Spring Art Salon, was established.
In terms of audience development, he has established programmes for young audiences called Prague Spring Flourish and SpringTEEN. He has contributed to the development of marketing, particularly modernization in the area of online campaigns and the creation of unique audio-visual content. He initiated the transformation of the ticket sales system (more than 95% of tickets are now sold online through the festival's website).
Upon assuming the position of Festival Director, he stated that he considers Prague Spring an international festival of world renown, which ideally balances tradition and exploratory spirit. He declared that he would do everything to ensure that Prague Spring under his leadership would develop with responsibility toward the glory and history of the festival, while also in an energetic and modern way.
Since 2022, he has also been the President of the Association of Music Festivals of the Czech Republic.
