2 - Carmen

This production returns to the birthplace of the most popular French opera "Carmen", the Opera Comique where it was premiered in 1875. Bizet’s last opera which was completed just before his, like Mozart's, untimely death at the age of 36, became one of the very few modern operatic myths. For this new production, stage director Adrian Noble creates an intense and elegant staging that tells the story with an engaging freshness. By playing on period instruments, John Eliot Gardiner and his Orchestre révolutionnaire et Romantique reveal the authenticity and the brilliancy of the opera. Anna Caterina Antonacci, sensual and tragic, leads an international cast, accompanied by the tremendous Monteverdi Choir.
