A new staging of the most popular opera by Leoš Janáček produced by the Brno National Theatre takes place within the Dagmar Home for Children which had been founded in 1928 by the writer Rudolf Těsnohlídek, author of the original book which the libretto is based upon. For Jiří Heřman, one of the best Czech opera directors, this production marked his entry into the world of Janáček's operas.
