The National Ballet of Ukraine undertook its premiere themed on “war” since the Russian invasion with the new work Wartime Elegy in June 2024. This programme depicts the drama of the creative process leading up to the premiere from three perspectives: a choreographer with Russian roots, a principal dancer who carries darkness, and a Japanese artistic director as a ‘foreigner.’ The dancer is tasked with ‘dancing your own story.’ It delves the meaning to live through the ravages of war.
