A recording of Viktor Ullmann and Peter Kien’s opera The Emperor of Atlantis, or The Disobedience of Death, presented at the 2025 Ars Electronica Festival in Linz with the use of artificial intelligence. This extraordinary chamber opera was created in the Terezín concentration camp in 1943 and explores the timeless theme of totalitarianism through the story of Death refusing to serve a tyrannical regime. The planned performance in Terezín never took place. Both authors and some of the musicians perished in Auschwitz, but the work itself survived.
