1 - The Face of the City

The Face of the City, a two-part music documentary, follows the lives and music of Finnish modernist composers at a time that revolutionized the aesthetics of classical music. In the early 20th century young composers Ernest Pingoud, Väinö Raitio, Aarre Merikanto and Uuno Klami questioned the national identity built by the cultural elite. Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra with conductor Hannu Lintu plays music against the backdrop of city streets and people walking in their lights and shadows.
