80 - The Gambler

Peter Sellars’ Gambler is front-loaded with a post-apocalyptic sci-fi aesthetic and still manages to be as relevant as ever, mirroring our own money-obsessed society. Sellars’ unique video direction complements his directorial vision perfectly. The New York Times called the pairing of Asmik Grigorian and tenor Sean Panikkar “a highlight of the Salzburg Festival” and praised Panikkar as one of the year’s breakouts: “superhuman and mesmerizing”.
