Kublai Khan, the ruler of Cathay, plans to marry his son Lipi to the Bengali princess Alzima. However, Alzima and Kublai's nephew, Timur, are in love, and Lipi, raised by the notable Posega, has no interest in women. Posega advises against the marriage. Two Italian adventurers, Memma and Bozzone arrive at court, and Bozzone suggests the obvious solution: Timur marries Alzima, becoming heir, while Lipi focuses on his education. After numerous twists and turns, a solution is finally found.
