18 - MADAMA BUTTERFLY – BREGENZ FESTIVAL 2022

In summer 2022, the Bregenz Festival presented Giacomo Puccini's Madama Butterfly. It is considered one of today's most popular operas and for the first time it took place in the unique setting of the famous lake stage. Puccini's "Japanese tragedy" was staged by the artistic director of the Zurich Opera House, Andreas Homoki. Japanese flair had been brought to the lake stage by Michael Levine's enchanting set design and Antony McDonald's colorful costumes.
