During rehearsals of Bedřich Smetana’s opera The Bartered Bride, director Alice Nellis made a series of eight videos in which she presents the process of staging an opera. It takes the audience into the rehearsals and backstage of the opera; the camera peers into the production workshops, make-up room and dressing rooms, revealing many theatrical magic tricks. The interviews feature opera soloists as well as artistic and technical professions, without whom the show simply could not go on. The programme is hosted by Jan Cina, who asks curious questions and comments wittily on what is happening in front of (and behind) the curtain.
