The Orchestre de Paris, conducted by Elim Chan, performs Gershwin’s Concerto in F with pianist Lucas Debargue, alongside Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances. Gershwin’s concerto blends European classical tradition with the rhythms of jazz, blues and Charleston, capturing the energy and spirit of modern America. Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances, composed in 1940, combine rhythmic vitality with rich orchestral colours and culminate in a dramatic encounter between the Dies irae and an Orthodox chant.
