Portugal is ruled by an unscrupulous prime minister who has managed to keep the king out of politics. In search of inspiration for his new novel Don Quixote, the poet Cervantes gets involved in the affair with a lot of humor - until the queen's lost lace handkerchief takes events in a different direction.
