50 - Saint-Saëns: Carnival of the Animals from Santa Cecilia

Classical music is often thought of as being austere, ponderous and stern, yet there are examples that were explicitly intended to be the exact opposite. Carnival of the animals is one of those compositions. Regarded as being plain fun by Saint-Saëns himself, this work is often underestimated as a piece for children.
Maestro Pappano provides us with deeper insights on each individual movement: with musical examples and a very entertaining introduction interspersed with witty anecdotes.
