The Salzburg Easter Festival opens with Kirill Serebrennikov’s dystopian, post-apocalyptic production of Das Rheingold. The prologue to Richard Wagner’s monumental Ring cycle sets in motion a dark story of power and intrigue. Wagner’s music vividly depicts both the dramatic action and the characters’ inner conflicts, with Christian Gerhaher making his role debut as Wotan.
