For several hundred years ball houses were hot spots all over Europe. In these, renaissance theatre was developed, with triumphs by the young Molière, and kings and queens fraternized with commoners – as fortunes were gained and lost. These early sports cathedrals also hosted a new kind of political meeting that changed the world.
