67 - Venus & Adonis and Didos & Aeneas

This double bill of British Baroque opera, one by the master of music John Blow and the other by his talented pupil Henry Purcell, was recorded at the historic Confidencen. These two short operas are filled with false relations and inventive harmonies. The classical dramas are explored through the composers’ great wit and passion. Lyric ‘masques’ like Blow’s Venus and Adonis paved the way for later operas. Henry Purcell was inspired and later created something unique of his own.
