The Latvian Nationwide Song and Dance Festival is an amateur art phenomenon that first took place in 1873. This year marked the 150th anniversary of this tradition. In July 2023, the Festival took place in Riga for ten days featuring 40,000 participants – more than 1,600 choirs, music and dance groups from Latvia, and more than 100 groups from abroad. The culmination of the celebration was the grand dance concert and the massed choir concert; a selection from them is featured in this programme.
