Brian Large: the legendary TV director presents his new autobiography

Brian Large

Large, originally a concert pianist, began his television career at the BBC and later became an opera director at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. His iconic works include the Centennial Ring from Bayreuth, the original Three Tenors from the Baths of Caracalla, and two decades of Vienna Philharmonic's New Year's Concerts.

The autobiography At Large - Behind the Camera with Brian Large, written in collaboration with Jane Scovell (author of biographies of Elizabeth Taylor and Ginger Rogers), offers an intimate look at half a century of musical history. Large recalls encounters with giants like Luciano Pavarotti, Plácido Domingo, Leonard Bernstein, Birgit Nilsson, Georg Solti, and even Frank Zappa.

The book, with a foreword by Renée Fleming, begins in war-torn London and takes readers on a journey through the world of classical music through the eyes of a director who brought the magic of live performances into the homes of millions of viewers worldwide.
