A documentary portrayal of versatile artist Ondřej Havelka, a shy introvert who – being intrinsically an adventurer willing to take risks – entertains audiences across the country and age categories with dancing and singing, accompanied by his orchestra, the Melody Makers. In the world of music and film, he is famed as an inventive director of opera and drama as well as documentary films, and as a screenwriter. In doing so, he looks like he is not there and does not belong there – he has always been featured as a guest artist. He refuses to talk about his “life and work” in the spirit of traditional, retrospective documentary portrayals.
This challenge was creatively accepted by Břetislav Rychlík, who supports Havelka in slightly stylised, self-deprecating passages skilfully combined with authentic documentary shots of Havelka’s exceptionally varied artistic season and archival materials.
