Konzervatoř

The premiere of the new documentary directed by Martin Kubala celebrating the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Dance Conservatory of Prague

Not long after the end of World War II, the first school focused on bringing up professional dancers was established in Prague, with the support of the state. This was the cornerstone for training professional dance artist so much needed for further development of dance art in the post-war Czechoslovakia. During the years of its existence, the Dance Conservatory brought up personalities such as Jiří Kylián, Ivan Liška, Daria Klimentová or Jiří and Otto Bubeníček. The current school director Jaroslav Slavický uses his rational and yet very empathetic leadership to awaken not only dance skills among the dance undergraduates but also to develop their talent for choreography.

The audience can get a backstage view of the Dance Conservatory and see all kinds of dances which are taught at the school – classic and modern dance as well as traditional folk dances. The documentary will also focus on eminent choreographers and dancers associated with the Conservatory. The story will be linked together by the persona of Jaroslav Slavický who is the good spirit of this institution. Director Martin Kubala aimed at capturing the vibrant life of the Dance Conservatory which manages to live its artistic life whatever the era.
