A Year in The Life of Jiří Kylián

Jeden rok v životě Jiřího Kyliána

This year, the world-renowned choreographer Jiří Kylián became a member of the French Académie des Beaux-Arts. He is the third Czech to have been thus recognised since the Academy's establishment in 1816. He is also the first member of that institution for whom a new fine-arts discipline, choreography, has been created. Jiří Kylián is one of just a few foreigners to have had this honour bestowed upon them.

In September 2018, together with the ballet ensemble of the National Theatre in Prague, he staged a retrospective evening - Bridges of Time - comprising his most remarkable choreographic works. His Academy inauguration took place in March 2019 and he will spend the summer of 2019 in The Hague. All of this is contained in the documentary A Year in The Life of Jiří Kylián. It looks at the character of this world-famous choreographer, alternating footage from ballet rehearsals, his Academy membership inauguration ceremony and his own personal life.
